30th May (Support: David Bristow)
Olly Alcock Band Members £10 Non-members £12 The Olly Alcock Band – Olly Alcock (guitar & vocals) Rockin’ Eddie Chicken (bass); Mike Thorburn (drums); Roz Sluman (sax). Olly usually has a lot to say! Mind you he should have, he’s been gigging since the late ‘60s and during the ‘70s was a member of the band ‘England’ together with John Waite, who in the ‘80s achieved mega-stardom in the USA where his single ‘Missing You’ reached No.1 (it was a top-tenner here as well). Musically the OAB are steeped in the electric blues of the early Clapton/Mayall period, their repertoire showcasing original compositions together with classics such as ‘Sweet Home Chicago’. However, they are different! The difference being the interplay between guitarist Olly and saxophonist Roz who’s been blowin’ the blues and jazz all here life. Throw into the mix a tight rhythm section, three part harmony vocals, oh, and Olly’s witty banter and you have a distinctive, winning formula. Read more about the band's interesting history and hear some sounds at www.olly-alcock-band.co.uk. David Bristow Dave Bristow Travelling all theway from Stratford-upon-Avon, this singer/songwriter was at the Club only a matter of two months ago but, such was the positive reaction to his appearance that he's been booked again. This is a musician who covers the depth of British emotions while still keeping the slow-tapping rhythm of Delta blues. Last time he was here his elegant style and delicate, melodic guitar playing shone, never more so than on his own 'Devil On My Shoulder' where his fragile, vulnerable vocals gave credence to a song about the demon drink. Listen to that very recording at www.myspace.com/keighleybluesclub. Arrive late and you'll miss a true blues man playing from the heart. |
